How is the fall going?
Last year, it felt like half of our sessions were no-shows. As I’ve shared before, keeping students engaged was a struggle, and our expectations weren’t always clear enough. Some no-shows are unavoidable. Even with reminder emails, families forget or have tough days. But this year? We’ve held more than 100 sessions and no-shows have stayed in the low teens. This means kids are showing up, families are canceling ahead of time when they need to, and we’re holding ourselves accountable.
About 40% of our referrals this year are for students who identify as Hispanic or Latino/a, and the age distribution looks completely different from prior years. Forty percent of referrals are in elementary school, another 40% are in middle school, and the rest are in high school or college. We’re also now receiving referrals from eight counties across Massachusetts—eight!
Even better, we’ve had referrals come from people and organizations we didn’t actively engage. Word of mouth is working its magic.
We’re proud of how far we’ve come and even more excited about where we’re headed. New referrals are arriving every month, and our dedicated tutors and committed families are helping us move steadily toward our goals.
Seeing students grow in confidence and curiosity is the best reminder of why we do what we do. Thank you for being part of this little community we’re building. Every session, every referral, every conversation reminds us why this work matters.
