Tri… again?

Back in September, in my post "Why Tri?", I wrote about the three sides to the tutoring TRIangle: fundamentals, strategies, and student effort. These have guided my tutoring methods for the past 15 years. Lately, though, I noticed myself listing TriTogether’s three pillars—and they don’t quite match! While the original “three sides” represent key aspects of tutoring, TriTogether as an organization has three unique facets to our mission. In this way, “tri” feels appropriate in more than one sense.  TriTogether’s mission can be summed up in three words: education, equity, and community.

These pillars became especially clear when we launched our LearnTogether series, though they apply to everything we do.

As a nonprofit offering academic support, education is at the heart of our work. But education is more than just better grades—it gives students the tools to succeed and grow! And this naturally leads to equity. We provide tutoring with the goal of giving these students an equitable opportunity to learn. Many of our students face challenges like changing schools, extended absences, and/or trauma, which can make keeping up in class difficult. By providing targeted support, we help level the playing field, giving them access to the learning their peers are already receiving.

Finally, we are a community. We are tutors passionate about education, caregivers and care teams invested in their children’s success, students ready to tackle learning challenges, and a broader network eager to help TriTogether meet students’ needs.

Education, equity, and community are what we stand for. They are why we work so hard to reach the students who need support, recruit tutors with the skills and passion to help, and educate the broader community through LearnTogether and other outreach programs.
